Making cheese.  Two batches of mozzarella, two ricotta, three yogurts, and one chevre made this week.  I brought home 6.5 gallons of raw milk from Wildwood.

Though my garden looks like hell.  Weeds!  The flowers are still rockin.

Seashells from our trip last week.  For Solstice tomorrow the kids & I are going to adorn these on our bodies & home.

Minor Jackknife Clam shells were much sought after at the beach.  Levi organized & bagged & labeled them all before we left:  "28 holl ones"  and "23 brockon ones".

I look for the ones with holes at the end for necklaces.
I think whatever kills them must drill this hole & then eat the muscle - anybody know?

Solstice bouquets - 2 of them will be delivered as surprises!  I love surprises!

St. Augustine beach trip June 2013

Last of Wildwood

This is actually a post I started last week in Wildwood & never finished.  We made it home to Cairo for a quick 2-day flip & are now at the beach in St. Augustine.

My first batch of yogurt a complete success.  Why haven't I been doing this all along?  It is so easy & cheap.  Granddaddy had a yogurt maker that keeps it all at the right temperature & has GLASS cups.
75 cents for a quart made at home.  I pay over $3 at the store.

The farrier came on one of our last days.  We all got to check it out.

A little something I started while there.  Not so little really.  It's the largest 'barn star' I've made so far - I paint quilt blocks onto pieces of plywood.  This is a 4x4 square.  I'm making it to go on Graddaddy's shop.  Here it is double primed & sketched out in pencil - which you can just barely see.

Here it is 'roughed out' - the next step is to go back and cut in all the lines PERFECTLY.  And I'll also be adding red around the outer star.  I ran out of time, so it will be an ongoing project next time I'm in town.

In Wildwood

One of the many visits to see 'Penny' - Granddaddy's horse who lives with Dad's goats across the road.  The kids & I have spent hours over here since our arrival in Wildwood.

As much time has been spent in the branch.  Looking at cool rocks, finding aquatic insects, old glass, and other treasures. 

One of Dad's shiitake logs we found downstream - there was a big rain here several weeks ago & a bunch of his logs were washed away.

At the Chattanooga Farmer's market this morning (my Dad & Levi center).  It is huge!
I found marjoram plants! - I've been looking for some for months.

A great find this trip!!  (Thanks David).  RAW MILK for $3 a gallon right at the dairy!  If you look close, you can see the cream line near the top.  Tomorrow I'm doing a batch of yogurt.
