Silky Smooth

So, today I put Levi in the shower before his afternoon nap, per usual. I go about my business, picking up a few things before we lie down, turn my phone on vibrate, lock the doors, get the dog to kennel... and then I start to smell something - you know you can tell when someone is washing their hair in the shower... I go in to see what Levi has gotten into, pull the shower curtain back, and... Levi is covered in raspberry shaving cream & is feverishly shaving his legs with an old blue razor - ahhh!

Plants & Memories

I love plants & during the winter months when many of my outdoor plants are snug inside I'm reminded of their origins - many gifts or pass-alongs from friends - each holding memories for me

this is a 'pregnant onion' - given to me by my 11th (or was it 12th?) grade physics teacher, Ms. Royal - I lost the original plant, but had passed along some to Deanna, so it came back to me again this past summer!

African violet that blooms purple - from Pauline Wright, a woman from my church growing up, given to me during my high school years - have had it now 15 or 16 years!

a lovely from Deanna - believe it is a pass-along to her from her Grandmother

aloe, from a flea-market in Athens

when Mike & Teddi moved to New Mexico I inherited this shamrock

a peace lily from Nana Mott's funeral

a 'walking iris' - I got just a tiny clump of this from Gertrude in Athens - it's done so well here in Savannah, spreading into a beautiful plant - Nana Mott used to have a hanging pot of this on her back porch

a graduation gift (my college grad in 2004) from Brent & Laura - a jade, one of my favorites!

Squirrel, it's what's for dinner

Leave it to Joe to stumble across this... this farm in Tennessee is offering certified organic dehydrated canned squirrel meat - a one gallon can contains 10 pounds or about 40 squirrels and will run you 25 bucks - a convenience of course, if you don't live with your own squirrel hunter...

Where is the Green Sheep

I saw this children's book recommended a few months back on Soule Mama, a blog I love to read - and am so often inspired by. We got it for Levi for his birthday & have so enjoyed it. It will take a special place in our memory because it is the first book Levi is 'reading' aloud to us in its entirety. We all sleep together and per usual Levi was the first awake this morn - he treated us with a very snugglie reading first thing.

Hostel in the Forest

We got away this past weekend to the Hostel in the Forest - a traveler's hostel in Brunswick, Ga - it's been around since the '70s - it's very eco friendly: composting toilets, dome houses, free range chicken, & gardens - we had a good time exploring & Levi loved feeding the chickens - unfortunately, Levi & I picked up a stomach bug (food poisoning?) while there & fled home Sunday morn to recuperate - three days later we're still trying to shake it - Some pics from our trip

Snow

It's actually snowing here... in Savannah... snow in Savannah. How often does that happen? Every ten years or so...

We had to celebrate. Guinness. Yes, Guinness. Extra stout please, no widgets.

We are off to the Hostel in the Forest in the morn & for a day/night away. Exploring Brunswick. Brunswick? Hmmmmm.....

THREE! :)

Thank you all for making Levi's birthday very special - calls, cards, & gifts - and to the Mamas, Papas, & kiddos who celebrated this morning with us. Happy Birthday Levi, we love you so much!

We're going out to eat tonight, for a little birthday meal. We were going to make his favorite spaghetti, but told Levi we'd go out wherever he wanted. Chic-fil-a was the instant winner......the 3 year old's choice!!
